EVELAND — I came to Ohio expecting to see a party downplaying its differences. I didn’t expect to witness a quiet civil war. The streets of Cleveland have been peaceful, even jolly, with street artists sketching Trump portraits and street preachers denouncing sin through loudspeakers. It’s loud and hot, and concrete barriers and cages are everywhere, but there is minimal sense of menace. Law-enforcement officers looked slightly on edge yesterday.
