Though he’d been temporarily banned before, the final straw came after he drummed up a campaign that led his followers to bombard Leslie Jones, the S.N.L. actress and star of the new Ghostbusters movie, with often racist memes on the social-media platform. News of the ban came about 20 minutes before Yiannopoulos, who is gay, was to throw a party called “WAKE UP!” and billed as “the most fab party at the R.N.C.” The event was to be co-hosted by the anti-Muslim activist Pamela Geller.
